Costa Rica Day tres Domingo

hola!

Praise Jesus, it is Sunday! we had a glorious day today in the Lord! as usual, it was a most pleasant warm, sunny 70º day. today we didn´t have to catch the bus until 9:15, so we were able to sleep a little longer (how wonderful it was) and really relax with the group at breakfast. usually we kind of eat and run, but this morning we all sat around in the outdoor eating area and just enjoyed each other´s company.

we attended the church that jay and nancy attend, which was located in the heart of san jose. a majority of the congregation (it would have been 100% had we not been there)spoke español, so we felt like we were in heaven and listening to tongues. they did try to select songs that would be familiar to us, however the words on the screen were in spanish. it was fun (for me and few others) singing the songs (or trying) in spanish. there was one song most of us knew every word--breathe. it is a very short song. the worship was very overt and spirited and lasted almost an hour. the people had a wonderful freedom in their worhip that many of us envied. some of us experience a freedom just being in a church where we did not know the people there. our missions team was introduced to the congregation along with another team that was there from the Chicago area. their pastor gave the sermon--in english, and he had an interpreter for the rest of the church. it was a great ser

mon (but we missed pastor barden) he spoke on luke 24 about are you looking for life among the dead things? he talked about when Jesus called Lazarus out of the grave, Lazarus came walking bound in the grave clothes (ropas). he likened it to us being bound by our sins and not having the freedom that Christ has for us. the pastor gave an alter call for people to give their bondages to Jesus. it was a very powerful service.
charged and ready to go, we hopped back on the bus and went to the work site where nancy and amanda were waiting for us with a delicious lunch of homemade meatball, cheese filled raviolis, hot garlic bread, salad, and cake. then it was time to accomplish much for the kingdom! it was now about 12:30--1:00 and we could only work until 5:30, so we were eager...

tim, gary, john, and mark doubled up and worked in the classroom additions in the library. they were able to get most of the dry wall up--and we are talking up to the ceiling. howard and wayne were putting in electrical outlets and wiring. they also did the same at the apartments.

meanwhile, andy, jordan, and pastor continued laying block in the bodego. they built 2 courses on one wall and 3 courses on the other, with jordan mixing 6 wheelbarrels of mortar/cement.

karen and kim painted an entire bedroom in tim and amanda´s apartment. they are doing such a great job that they have been offered moonlighting job back in the states. yesterday, amanda went into her freshly painted bathroom, admired it, then screemed, Ï love it´! it is wonderful to serve people who are truly grateful.

kathy completed the kitchen curtains, 4 pairs of dining/living room curtains, and a ´skirt´for the bathroom sink.

david and brent continued to hang dry wall, mud, tape, and sand. i never saw david walk to any destination. he was always jogging there! no wonder they got so much done

charlie wore out another pair of sneakers watching over each team and encouraging and uplifting us all.

we left at 5:30 loaded with sandwiches, chips, cookies, fruit, and drinks for the hotel. we met again for devotions. this time, charlie had a message for us. he read to us from I cor. 12 about the parts of the body each being important and needed by the other parts of the body. he told us of when he was in beleze and there was a time that he looked at each worker as just a man, not God´s glory working through each man. he wanted us all to be encouraged that we each are important to this team and that God´s glory is what is important.

we prayed for mark´s daughter madelaine who has had a very temperature, sara persutte, gary´s back and his birthday tomorrow, wayne´s stomach and digestive illness.

we love and miss you all. thank you so much for your prayers. please continue to pray for protection for us all. we are feeling attacks. thank you.
