...and they're safely back

Fortunately, the team is back safely. But unfortunately, they didn't have interenet access at the site this year (last year was work on a school, which that made it more possible).

Mike Bacher has sent more interesting photos, so check them out from the Missions part of our web page. You can see the exploration that did and some of the fun stuff... you'll have to just ask them about all of the hard work that went on throughout the trip.

They are there safely

Report from Mike Bacher is that they arrived safely and will write soon. Lots of photos on the church site now, so check them out and come back here over the next few days.

Costa Rica Trip 2006

Mike Bacher will be posting updates from the trip as well as anyone else he can rope into helping. The team is meeting at the church on Thursday at 3am... so even if Pastor was joking about the nice weather they are heading toward... they'll still get one last shot of cold NY before they leave.

Our crew will help to build a church building for a rapidly-growing congregation that is having a huge impact in their area.

So check back in often and see what unfolds...

Biloxi Trip Update

UPDATE: Monday PM - Pastor said they arrived safely around 2PM. It is leveled-out there, and very devastated in the area. They had a 30 minute tour today. There are no showers, but they are ready to go to work for the Lord. They were warned that they may find people in the debris and to call 911. Pray for Pastor Barden, he has a head cold, but is not complaining of course. They are glad to be there and will pitch in tomorrow.

Biloxi Mission Trip Update

Pastor Barden called at 4:00pm Monday, November 7, 2005, and said they had arrived in Biloxi at 2:00pm, after a long, tiring 24-hour drive. The trip went smoothly until the very end where they started entering the devastation area. All bridges, except one, were out, and their directions pointed them to a bridge that was out. They got lost for a little while trying to find the one operational bridge. They only ran into heavy traffic a couple of times on the trip. By 4:00pm, they had their campsite set up in a grassy area near the ocean, which used to be the area where homeless people lived. How ironic – almost everyone is homeless now. They were going to an orientation meeting so they will be prepared to start work tomorrow.

Pastor’s description of the area is “UNBELIEVABLE”! It is completely flat – it is like it was bombed. There is devastation everywhere. There is a 2-story casino building that is washed up on the shoreline.

Costa Rica Final Day

    Hello All,

today is a sad day as we are leaving.  we enjoyed our last Costa Rican breakfast of delicious fresh pineapple, papaya, cantalope, mango,  and watermelon along with the gallo pintos, eggs, and all that stuff and headed for outside to soak up some sun--finally!  several of us were out there from 8 untill 10--the very last minute as we had to get the bus at 10:30.  we got a little color, which you will see manana.

the bus arrived, we packed up, and sadly drove out of casa conde.  we went to cin cel, were gloriously thanked for our work.  it was a very touching moment.

the plane ride was smooth and safe and timing went well all the way.

george was there to meet us, along with a few family members.

it is good to be home,,,,but part of our hearts remains in costa rica...until next year!!!

God bless you all for all of your prayers!!

Love,
Kathy

Costa Rica Day 7 Wednesday

we cannot believe that our work here has ended!! we have worked all day long for the past 6 days and it has just flown by! the day certainly ended with mixed feelings-- wow, did we accomplish alot and we are tired, but on the other hand, this was wonderful and we want to do more.....

as we walked around to look at each project, we were truly amazed at what God did--we did do alot of work, but it was God that made it all come together and He was the One who glorified Himself in it!!

as you remember, we had 3 projects to work on --the classrooms in the library, the storage room, and the rehabbing of the apartments. here´s the results of our labor:

the classrooms were all constructed--the dry wall is all in place and is taped and sanded and ready for paint. some of the sections were painted. all of the plastic was removed from the book shelves and the furntiure replaced. the furniture was dusted and cleaned and the floor cleaned and mopped. it looks great!!

the storage room, or bodego, was completed in the garage!! you would think that professional masons built this beautiful bodego. it has a doorway and looks great!

there are 3 apartments that were serviced.. tim and amanda´s apartment received: paint in the powder room, hemmed draperies in the dining/living room, curtains in the kitchen, curtain and sink skirt in the bathroom, curtains in timmy´s room, curtains and a duvet cover in tim and amanda´s bedroom, shortened curtains in shelby and kippy´s room, a newly constructed, freshly painted closet and refurbished bathroom (new fixtures and new paint) for the girls. in lora´s apartment: painted living/dining room, new curtains in 2 large windows, painted bedroom and 2 sets of curtains. in the 3rd apartment which was empty, it was totally transformed into a really nice living space. a new wall was built with a window, creating a kitchen/dining/living space, 2 bedrooms were dry walled and painted, with a closet built in, the bathroom was painted and new fixtures and vanity and medicine closet added.

tim was so grateful for all the work that was done--above and beyhond what he expected. he said he was very pleased with the quality of the work. we knew that it was God´s hand on ours...

the end is near and we are soooooo grateful to our Lord for all that He has done in and through us this week. we have learned more about what it is to be a servant. we learned that we can still give alot more... we learned that this experience builds faith... we saw how God can and did multilply the work of our hands... we saw how God was glorified in our actions, deeds, and prayers...

our devotions was in Phil 2 and how we should considers others better than ourselves and how we must imitate Christ´s humility. our attitudes must be right or else all the work we do is for naught. pastor talked about how we go on missions trips to bless them, and in the end we are so blessed by the experience....

tomorrow we will get to see a little bit of the costa rican country side.

God bless you for all of your prayers.
